is this normal for a 3 year old

hi my son is 3 years old and doesn't talk he can say the odd word like mum dad car we have taken him to speech therapy who have said that he is missing off the first letter of the words he is saying and has poor consentration. At home he will not sit down for any length of time to do anything he flicks from one thing to another gets bored really easily and then decided to destroy things especially if we have made it together. if he does play its to take things out of one box and into another. He is on the go from the minute he wakes up to the minute he falls asleep which can take for ages as he won't settle. If we are out i cannot let go of his hand as he just runs and has no fear of danger i.e running into a road. He doesn't make much eye contact and anything you say to him will be answered with a yer so he is obviously not understanding what you are saying. is this normal? I have two older children and have not experienced anything from either of them two.

No, this is not a normal situation. He is definitely showing a significant delay in achieving speech/language, and this may be occurring in the context of broader developmental issues. An evaluation by a developmental pediatrician would be a wise course to take. Is there a family history of hyperactivity? His psychomotor restlessness is definitely also beyond the normal spectrum

Insurances handle these things in different ways. But the PCP would be a good place to start.
