manipulation

after allowing tears to work for years our extremely intelligent 5yr and 9mos old grandaughter is exhibiting terrible tantrums with parents and sitters.in order to cause a scene. these have not happened at school .(m nor was the crying used at school. She also never g has a accident at school this yearbut will have both at home -denies, hides panties etc ------------------------------ her two 7&8  yr old sibling were expected to give in  and now she expects it from them

Yes, often a child appears to be manipulating when in actuality more is going on.  An overactive nervous system can cause a child to try to control their enviroment and adds to tantrums in an older child.  Some kids have trouble with regulation/ modulation and have a difficult time self soothing.  

My son has sensory issues that can result in tears.

I guess some five year olds are just acting up to get what they want----------  but sometimes it is definately more.  Worth looking into things.  Anxiety, seperation anxiety, sensory integration disorder because perhaps too busy parents have not uncovered the root ot the problem?  I don't know------  but that does happen.

Could separation anxiety be the issue?  Just wondering ....
