mother took coumadin

mother took coumadin

My 16 month old granddaughter appears to me to have some developmental problems-her mother took coumadin and heperin during the entire pregnancy.  Baby does not speak with the exception of occasional "ma" (not associated with mother), but does make noises and show delight in some things. She can stack blocks, loves to press buttons, plays with push button toys correctly (knows cause and effect), feeds herself very well.  Plays peek a boo, very attached to father.  She doesn't engage with people  and hardly looks at people. Doesn't bring anything to "Show" mom or dad.  She loves lights, smiling and laughing at cameras (flash), smiling when lights come on, loves soda machines, presses face to toys with lights.  When she has books, she turns them over and over in hands -- will open them and look at pages.  Concentrates on toys, to exclusion of most other things.  Will not answer to her name at all.   She has a half brother (11) that has ADHD and is a special ed student, learning difficulties.  I don't know if this is normal or problematic.  Please give me some idea of where we should go from here.

At this point there does not appear to be any substantial reason for worry. With the family history of neurointegrative problems (e.g., ADHD, learning problem), she will have to be watched as she develops during the pre-school years. But right now she is not displaying developmental difficulties that warrant alarm. Remember that average time frames within which to accomplish the various developmental tasks are only frameworks: some children arrive at some stages on the early end, some on the late end, and it's not unusual for many children to develop early in some regards and later in others. If her parents have any concerns about specific developmental landmarks they shold of course bring this concern up with the pediatrician.
