my 7yo daughter is always smelling her old socks

She loves the smell of old socks and is always smelling them while she watches TV. This has been going on for years, and I let it go. She laughs about it. Is it commonly known, or thought to be indicative of something? She will occasionally suck her thumb too. She is a sensitive kid, but seeks to be the center of attention. People or other kids may not realize her sensitivity. She is also an extreme tom-boy.

I have not heard of a sock smelling disorder but there seems to be one for everything else, who knows, take the socks away so she wont smell them, dont make any issue of it,as thats feeding into it, sucking a thumb is very common and as its occasional , I doubt tha's a problem. How about you play some board games with her ., read some stories distract her from her socks , stop talking about it, and it will go away good luck

i have to laugh at this  my 3yr old does this    i find it discusting but he finds it hilarious  so my hubby made a game of it    i think its normal

My 3 year old daughter did this for some time...she thought it was funny and would try to get us to smell her socks too and then run away laughing...she eventually stopped one day and hasn't done it since.

you should to let it go. why should she not do it if she would not like it. i did like to smell my well worn nylon socks too when i was a child and i like it still. if she likes it tell her to do it not in front of others but privately. talk about it with her.
