my lying 12 year old

I am trying to figure out why my 12 year old son constantly is lying. I dont punish him for telling the truth and I take away his favorite activities when he is lying, but he still continues to tell lyes. Also why does it take him 6 hours to do a 20min chore, I just dont understand.

I know adults like that. Lie when they really don't have to. Most of the time children are afraid your going to get mad about something so they lie. Or get out of something like chores. My five year old does this all the time. It drives me crazy, but sometimes I have a little fun and turn it around on him. Example, if he says he's sick and cant go to school. I say well looks like were going to the doctors to get one of those huge shots in the arm for sick people. Haha, then he says no I'm not sick.lol  But chores i can't help you, I hate them too.

i dont have a 12 yr old just yet, about 10 more years and ill be more help lol

but maybe he takes so long to do simple chores because he really really doesnt want to do it, and thinks maybe if he takes along time you will eventually do it for him, just a thought (i was 12 not too long ago, and i remember taking a hour to do the dishes so my mom would eventually take over, cleaning my room went the same, my advise on this one is stay consistent, dont take over, and maybe you could try setting a time limit, say an hour to clean up the living room, and if its not done, then no video games for the rest of the day, like i said dont know if it will work since im just barely getting into the terrible twos with my dd, but i know if my mom would have done that i might have got something done once in a while)
