my poor 2 year old

by Rachelinpain, Jul 12, 2007 09:53PM
My 2 year old girl will be having endoscopy with biopsies of her esophagus, stomach and intesine to see why she is not gaining weight on monday.  She is 28 months old and only 9.8 kg (21lbs).  I have 15 month old twins who greatly outweigh her.  She has been seeing a GI since she dropped off the growth curve for weight about a year ago.  She started out small we thought she was just petetit, her height has been tracking the growth curve, her weight is falling farther and farther and farther away from the curve.  They can not figure out what is wrong with her.  She basically drinks half and half instead of milk and gets shakes that are like 1100 calories.  It seems like to me she is just a normal picky 2 year old eater but obviously something is wrong.  Some days she eats great, some days she eats no food at all...its like she just has no intrest in food.  Hopefully they will find something we can treat, otherwise they are going to have to put in a feeding tube unless she starts to gain weight.  Unfortunately she is adopted, we have had her since she was 6 weeks old but besides being born addicted to crack we have no idea about her or her parents hx.   i do not even know what ethnicity her father is (neither does the mother).  Well, just thought I would see if there was anyone out there going through anything similar....hopefully monday will go well.

I will be praying for you and your daughter, that tomorrow's tests will go smoothly, will reveal the problem, and that the problem will be easily rectified.

Hang in there,
Michele

I too, wish that I could offer some advice, but looks like the medical community is charge here. At first I was inclined to say that 2 year olds go throough that. And it is true, my youngest child... would NOT eat! It was scary. I could get him to drink milk though, but I felt that he needed more than that. At times he was a little thin, but otherwise healthy. I left finger foods on the table all the time, and would take him to the table with a toy or something to play with, hoping that he'd pick up something. It could be that she is experiencing this normal thing in conjunction with something else.
I hope and wish the best for you and that baby!
