my seven year old hates school

What can I do about my seven year old son that doesn't like school? his behavior is making his grades very low. He doesn't like to complete his work or get started. But when he comes home we have none of these problem with him. What can I do? He was held back in the first grade this year because of his behavior

Is he being bullied?? Is there a problem between him and his teacher?? I would call the school and ask for a meeting with his teacher.

im 13 years old and im in a similar situataion as your son.
at my skool, evry1 in my class is younger than me. i enjoy hangin out wiv people in older classes and i wish i was in the year above. havin 2 go into the same class makes me miserable. i also hav no real friends at my skool. i only see my friends on saturdays for like 3 houres and i chat to them on msn. my grades are bad bcoz my teachers are bad and the work they give us is a piece of ****. even my mom thinks it.
i am not able to talk to my mom about any of this. wen i come home i try to forget that i go to this skool. if my mom asks me if im enjoyin skool i cannot anser.
ur son might think (as i do) that the work he is doing is pointless and won't help him in   life.
my advise is: ask him if he really hates it. if he doesnt answer then he does hate it. take him out of that skool and put him in a skool he might be happier in. if he is not happy then he wont succeed in life. i am givin u this advise bcoz if u dont then sooner or later ur son will hate, he wont trust people and he wont be able to talk to u.
i wish my mom wuld do what i just advised u to do.
just make sure ur son is happy.i dont want other kids being like me

I am having a simliar issue with my 7 year old. Although, she says she hates school her teacher tells me that when she is there she is happy. They're thinking about holding her back or putting her into the special school district to get additional help. They think possibly it is a learning disability. We are currently talking with teachers and her pediatrician to find out if she has one or not. I just wonder if your son is having problems at school with other kids or if the work is too hard or easy for him. I know that sounds funny but sometimes kids that don't do well in school or don't like school either think it's too easy or too hard. And at one point my daughter said she didn't like school and after a while I found out that another girl was calling her fat (which she is not!!! She is a tiny little petite thing! She is 7 and still wears size 5 and 6!) My daughter now says she doesn't like it b/c she doesn't get good grades, but that's b/c she just (I think) can't comprehend and store the information/work that she is being taught. I'd talk with his teacher and find out what he is like at school, how his grades and school work are, if he's having problems at school and  what his attention span is like there. Good luck!

Hi All

My 7 yr. was being bullied at school and he either didn't want to go or would tell me he had a belly ache and didn't feel good. When the school nurse called me 2 times during the week, telling me my son got a knot on his head he fell and hit a bench out on the playground or his knee's got skinned up today outside, I became concerned, so I sat down with my son and we had a conversation about school,how it was going and all and asked about his friends and who he plays with outside,and he sadly told me nobody and he told me he was getting bullied, I too was bullied as a child in grade school. So maybe he's getting bullied at school and doesn't want to be a tattle tail,like my son.

How come you can't talk to your mom about how you are feeling?  You sound very intelligent - maybe you need to be placed in a higher level at school - then maybe you'd be happier?  Can you talk to your guidance counselor and tell them how  you are feeling?
