nail picking

My four year old son has always had to rub or suck his thumb. Recently he has started really picking at his nails and having trouble staying asleep at night with the inability to take naps. He sees stressed and/or anxious but I cannot find obvious reasons for this change in behavior. Any ideas or input?

You say he is four as he just started school? As he a new brother or sister? My daughter picks at her face and arms, lips everything she as had impetigo twice when she first started school, she is struggling at school so i think this is why she is anxious, as she trys really hard but still struggles. Sorry can't be of much help. Hope you get to the bottom of it. Sharon x
