not babbling at 3 months

My baby is 3 months 2 weeks old.  and by the end of this month he should be making some sounds.  he makes some noise but not a lot.  when i speak to him he smiles looks at my face VERY attentively and does strawberries (when you pucker and blow...like when you blow on a toddlers belly) he sometimes sqeals .. and makes some sounds i have heard him.  but is not imitating yet, and seems pretty quiet for the most part.  He is not consistant like everytime i speak to him he does not make any noises. I know he can hear as he turns to the directions of sounds.  What can i do to encourage the gift of gab?  My husband says i am paranoid.. Maybe I am i just wanted to get some food for thought here

thanking you in advance

I thought kid's were supposed to get chicken pox? They still obviously do. I had them as a kid. We know people who's children have gotten it so they hold a get the chicken pox party so the other kid's can get it. Because if you get it as an adult it is much worse. I don't see what a shot will do. Just like the flu shot, people still get the flu and get sick even with the shot. Makes no sense to me.

For whatever reason one theory is possible testostorone(sp?), boys are affected more. Girls dont seem to be affected negativley as often.
The Mercury has been banned but there are still stockpiles, they just didnt throw away all those vaccines. Plus supposedly the flu shot has it in it, which I dont get.
My son was fine after all his vaccinations for the most part. I will say though when he was getting them he had chronic diarrea (sp?) Was very fussy and was sick ALOT more . Since I stopped immunizing him at 2 he has been sooo much better.
Again you have to go with your gut.Plenty of resources out there on the topic. I personally know some people whos kids have never gotten a shot and they are just fine.

Yeah my brother told me bad stuff about vaccinations.  I did ask about the mercury and it has been banned.  The theory is that, that was causing autism in kids.  My son just had th MMR last Wednesday...  He seems fine.  My daughter is 3 and also had all the vaccinations.  She is okay, thankfully.  It's just all very confusing.  I feel like I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't.  My son is scheduled for a chicken pox vaccine in a month.  Any thoughts on that?

Because yrs. ago this shot used to not be combined, each one was given separatley(sp?). This seems to be the one that has "screwed up" the most children. Alot of parents watched their kids change overnight. Go from normal developing children to screaming and loosing development skills. Some think it is to much in one shot and there is no reason for it.Another problem with the immunizations is the thimersal (this it a preservative) that is used which is made up of mercury. Supposedly this should not be used in them anymore. I think it was banned in 1999. However there are still stock piles. The flu vaccination for example is  rumored to have the thimersal in it. Why you ask are alot of children given these shots and they turn out fine? Nobody knows for sure why some are affected negativley the only explanation can be genes.
Another shot the Hepb I believe was banned in France after there was a lawsuit against the shot.
Another interesting fact alot of pediatricians dont immunize their own kids.
Not to sound like a conspirator but there is big money involved in these shots. Alot of these diseases were on their way out when the shots were reintroduced.
I would be happy to give you the name of my resources if your interested. You could also find alot of info on the internet if you search.

And there is another side to the argument (isn't there always)....we are currently experiencing a large outbreak of mumps in my area.  We have several universities in my city and that is where it started, now those kids have left for the summer and we are seeing it spread throughout our region.  So, at this point I will have to opt for the vaccine.  However, I do know that the vaccine given here has no mercury in it.

Ah yes but isnt that funny that we have all been vaccinated for them and yet there can still be an outbreak?
And the kids that are vaccinated are not supposed to worry about getting it cause they have been vaccinated right?
What about the kids that arent vaccinated?

Hmm some food for thought.

Of course my pediatrician has warned me about the possibilty that my child could get some obscure disease. For that reason even more so I give him supplements to keep up his immune system as well as try to keep his diet healthy (althugh with a preschooler that can be challenging)
Parents who dont immunize are smart enough to be pro-active in other ways.
There are plenty of people from past generations that werent given nearly half as many shots as kids are given now and they are just fine. Keep in mind also you can pick and choose which shots your child is given.

Parents can do as they wish. Noone can convince them of what they feel is best fo their children. I give people info. that I know and leave it at that.
Again I will reiteratee the problem they found with the MMR is not so much the thimersal it is the fact that it is 3 diseases in one shot., instead of seperate.Good resource book

I think that you should not fret. your baby may just be a quet child. My daughter is 9 years old and she did not speak until she was 2yrs. old and I took her to lots of doctors , nothing helped and finally she just started talking at about 29 months old. She is now fluent in Spanish and getting ready to start learning French at 9 years old. She wants to learn 17 languages by the time she reaches hihg school. So I guess her not talkng gave her the gift of language, something my other three children are not good at.

Thank again. I so appreciate your post.  I have been doing research and everything is coming back not to worry just keep an eye out babies develop at their own pace.. etc. he is not a full 4 months yet.  he wont turn 4 months till the 23rd and he was born 2 weeks early.  not too sure if any of that has anything to do with it. I will keep an eye out and chew on the idea of the mmr vaccine.  thanks again for your response

Another couple things I will throw out there and of course you can do your own research. I have done my own research and have numerous resources on the topic. Dont give him the MMR immunization. If you feel comfortable stop immunizing him all together.
If you are nursing keep this up as long as you can. If you are not nursing make sure he is getting a formula that is not gona upset his immune system or stomache. Again this is based on knowledge and research I have done. Any "typical"pediatrican will tell you the complete opposite.
Again you do what you are comfortable with and you can research it on your own. If not I would be happy to give you the names of my resources.
I am not afraid to tell people this even though they think I'm crazy. I figure the more educated parents get the better off our kids are.

No I dont think the langauage being spoken makes a difference. He is way to little to even know what is being said to him right now. He only hears and imitates sounds.
Again if you are concerned and you obviously are or you wouldnt have posted just keep a close eye on him that is all you can do for now. That is good that he is being stimulated. You have a family member that has autism, so that is another reason to be cautious. Dont take the advice of typical pediatirican because often they will blow it off. Do your own research and keep tabs.
According to your second post sounds to me like he is doing just fine.
So he isnt doing it everyday, at least he is doing those things. It would be different if it werent at all.

Keep a close eye on him.

In the age of Autism there is much for parents to be concerned about, especially with boys.

Here is the CDC website.

http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/autism/ActEarly/milestones_3months.html

Some suggestions.
Always talk to him constantly. Don't rely to much on Baby Einstein. When he is 10 months old you can start teaching him sign (just in case)

Thanks for the site.. My son has met all of the milestones. One could say he has met the babbling one my concer is that he does not do it all the time.  One day he does one day he doesnot.. or at least with me he does not. As for imitating he is trying  to make sounds but not quite there yet.  He does not watch tv unless he catches it while we are watching it.  but mostly it is tummy time, talking playing etc.

as for autism... i know this one 1st hand we adopted my nephew who is autistic and
with the eye contact alone.. i am sure that is not it.  Autstic children look through you .. they never really look at you my little one is definately fixed on your face.  Thanks for the link seeing how well he is doing on all of the other milestones makes me feel better about this one.

Boys in general are slower when it comes to verbal skills.  My son is almost 1 and he does not say a word. Just babbles.  My daughter is 3 and she is and was a talker!  My sister's sons were the same way, slow in developing verbal skills.  Don't worry and be patient.
