not focusing in preschool

Hello i have a concern my 4 year old son has been going to preschool for abut 3 months.  His teacher has told me on many occasions that my son does not focus during circle time he talks to his friends next to him instead of sitting up straight and ( criss cross apple sauce ) he lays down.  He doesn't seem intrestead in class is this normal? Mickey,  he's so young it's hard to tell.  Everything is on a continuum - I don't think there are ANY boys who always sit up straight and pay attention and crisscrossapplesauce and stay there the whole time.    It's really,  how far outside the norm is he,  or is he very close to the average behavior.

Is this your sons first preschool year?  I ask because my son acted this way a  lot of times in his first year.  He is a very active child so for him to sit and listen and not do anything was hard for him.  by the end of the year he understood all the rules and this year has not had a problem at all with story time or any other quiet activity.  Still is very active otherwise just understands you must listen to the teachers while in school.  He just turned four on Christmas Eve-- we started him in early preschool.

Sounds like a perfectly normal three year old boy to me....

I think he is a very smart boy. The classroom routine dosen't fits every kid, especially some smart kid. By this age, some kids need a lot individual attention and freedom, but school will not satisfied them at this point.When he get older, he will be fine.
