we have an almost five-year old girl at the daycare who refuses to use the bathroom. When we put her in underwear, she holds it all day, until mom lets her have a pull-up at night.
Today, we had her sitting on the toilet for close to half an hour (kept checking on her, let her read), then she got up and immediately peed on the floor.
No remorse, she sweetly smiles, cleans up and proceeds the day as though nothing happened. Otherwise, nicely developed child.
Mom and daycare are at wits end. Pediatrician is no help "she'll do it when she is ready," is all he has to contribute...
Any suggestions? We tried all sorts of things already.
My 4 year old was a hard kid to potty train but we found out that using charts that we put stickers up on worked well with him. After about 5 or 10 potties in a row he was rewarded somthing like going to the bowling alley or getting a toy from wal-mart. Plus he got to see all the stars that he had earned hanging up on the wall. hopefully that could be of some help!
