Hi doctor I asked you a question back when my son turned 4 about potty training. He is developmentally delayed with auditory processing disorder. It has affected his areas of gross motor and fine motor and language. He is now almost 4 years and 5 months and still shows no interest in potty training. He has gone once on the potty number 1 but only a quick sprinkle and that was about a month ago. He has full bladder control as his diapers is always dry in the morning. My wife and I have tried to reward and encourage him but he always says he is afraid of the potty. My wife insists that we let him progress at a natural pace but it is getting really ridicoulous. I am beginning to wonder if he will ever become trained especially with summer coming. Do you have any suggestions on how to speed this along or should I just let it be? thank You

Yes, let it be, in the sense that you keep encouraging (not pressuring) him, and reward him for successful use of the potty. His developmental delay almost assures that his accomplishment of toilet training will take a while, but don't become discouraged. He needs your approval and support.
