rickets ??

by jamu, May 01, 2001 12:00AM
my 14 month old son is developing quite normally as per the standards prescribed (height/weight/head circum etc.).. however my docs suspect mild rickets.
The tests done had these results :
ALP  observerd 707 IU/L
(normal range given for india 0 to 515 il/l)
calcium observed 9.5 mg/dl
(normal range given for india 8.4 to 10.2 mg/dl)
phosphorus observed 5.4 mg/dl
(normal range given for india 2 to 4.5 mg/dl)

my docs are slightly confused as rickets would warrant a lowered calcium/phosphorus along with an increased ALP. However, here we only have a high ALP. Have been adviced Vit D supplements.

Could this be rickets ? need i have more tests done ??

thanks and regards

Jamu

Certainly the recommended remedy is in line with the diagnosis your doctor has made. However, I am not a pediatrician, and my specialty is in child/adolescent/family therapy. A good on-line resource is the PubMed site of the National Library of Medicine.
