running out of options, feel alone

by strugglingmom, Nov 04, 2009 01:17PM
My son is 4 years old, he has been diagnosed with ADHD and ODD since he was two. He has also been diagnosed with mood disorders and NOS (not otherwise specified). They think he might be bipolar. My newest problem is I just had a baby girl and he is not liking her being in our home. He gets very violent and hurts me, his sister, teachers, and the staff at the behavioral daytreatment center I fought to get him in. The Dr.s office he attends.....well I feel that they just don't care. He is on Tenex and Clonidine now and it is doing nothing!!! I've told them numerous times that the only difference is that he is waking up every night having nightmares and refuses to sleep in his room. I can't even get him to go to the bathroom by himself now. He started off on Risperdal, that seemed like it helped for a while then something was to high on his bloodwork so he got taken off it.He also had Clonidine at night with it. We tried Aderall and he got 50 times more aggressive (which I didn't think was possible) Then he was put on Falcone(spelled wrong) and Abilify, I seen no changes with that. Now he is on the Tenex and Clonidine. I am trying everything possible to get my family happily together. The facility isn't doing enough! He was admitted into impatient two times in October and Baker Acted once in October. They release him after a few days and nothing changes with his behavior. I don't spank him that makes him worse. I use the timeout method with the basket hold, which is usually always needed! I also use the point system where when he earns 5 stickers for good behavior he gets a treasure box prize. When violent he cusses, bites, punches and hits, spits, kicks, scratches, throws things.....u name it he does it. When he is good he is the most loving son EVER. PLEASE HELP!!!!! I need someone who cares. Thank you!

The interventions that have been employed with your son have been very sensible and reflect a good standard of care. It is likely the Bipolar Disorder that is driving most of the difficulty. It is likely, even at his young age, that he will require a lengthy period of inpatient treatment with the 24-hour care and structure only inpatient treatment can offer.
