sensory intergration dysfunction

I have a 4 year old boy who has been diagosis is sensory intergration dysfunction.  We are at a preschool that is great with special needs kids and also we are doing o.t. and speech theraphy. What else do we need to be doing and how do we explain what he has to people in our community and church. Your help would greatly be appreciated.

Dear Krisie,

It sounds like your son is receiving help from the professions best prepared to treat sensory integration dysfunction.

You can explain to others that your son's brain has some difficulty coordinating the messages it receives from the various senses (seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, smelling). The help he is receiving 'teaches' the brain to coordinate these messages better.

I see your message was posted september 1999.

Is your child 6 now?  Does he go to regular school?  I have a 6 year old girl with sensory intergration dysfunction. She is in a regular class and it's a nightmare.  The teacher insis she has ADD and wants me to consider medication.  She has been to 3neurologist and 1 nerophcologist 1 has said she has ADD like symtons.
Anyway how does your son do?

It would be nice to hear.
