separation anxiety

My four year old daughter has never had separation anxiety before. She has been going to my neighbor's house/daycare for a year now, but only recently (3 weeks) has been having severe separation anxiety. There have not been any changes in routine, home schedule, or other major changes in her life. Is this normal for a 4 year old to start having separation anxiety out of the blue?? Her symptoms are severe: waking between 2-5 am hysterically crying saying she does not want me (her mother) to go to work and that she does not want to go to daycare and clinging for dear life to both my husband and myself when we bring her to daycare.

Please help!!! It is braking my heart to see my daughter like this...I don't know what to do!

Thank you.

I am wondering what is happening at day care has there been any instances of children hitting or any reason that all of a sudden she doesnt want to go, she may want you around more children who are a long time in Day care very often miss their parents a lot could you adjust your hours and be with her more, they soon grow up and she will be at school the crying is a cry of need, Good luck I appreciate its not easy to juggle everything, but children need parents around..
