CHILD BEHAVIOR COMMUNITY

strange baby

I have a ten month old little girl.  When she was first born she had problems adjusting to social settings and was very set on routines.  We noticed this right away and told her doctor.  When she was at her 6 month check up the dr finally set her up with an OT evaluation.  Since then she has completely turned that behavior around and has now started a different one.  She blinks oddly and makes queer sounds that sound like she is saying "COME!!!"  really quickly.  She will do this repetetively while shaking her head.  Is this something to be concerned about?

I would not be concerned unless of course it continues for a long period of time.  There are stages and this may just be one.  Sometimes some babies and toddlers have somewhat strange behavior, but it passes.  My daughter had some odd behaviors also and she is fine now.  The psychologist that I worked for told me that up until the age of 3 any behavior is considered normal.  The psychologist went on to say if the behaviors did not change after age 3, then she would see her but not until after age 3.  My daughter blinked her eyes strangely too and I thought she had eye problems, but it passed.  She would do such things like bang her head on the wall, bite herself, pinched herself, and throw tantrums (so embarrassing in the stores which is why I stopped taking her to the stores for over a year).  She would act just terrible in church, yelling at everyone to sit down and such. She was quite the spirited child, but there are a lot of fun memories to talk about.  She mellowed out a lot by age 4.

If i were you, I would start a journal and keep track of what she does, and what is going on around her at the time. She may be responding to some kind of stimulus. For example, maybe she does this when lights are bright or people are talking loudly. The best way to detect patterns is to keep track of everything. You may even want to track when/what she eats in comparison to when the events occur.
