tensing body

My son is 3 years old and he tenses his body and makes a silly face during certain activities. He tenses when I'm driving in the car, when he sees a bus at times.  He also has a speech disability.  Articvulation is the main problem. He will request I want.......  He was tested throught the school district and everthing was in normal limits except for speech.  The tesing of the body concerns me.    I would like to know what i can do?  Thanks alot.

I think you should also post this on the Ask an Expert Forum.

Ok.Thanks for the extra information. As far as speech therapy, since he is receiving treatment, I won't go into that. I had to take speech therapy for like 6 years when I was a kid-- and I hated it -- but I guess it helped -- I'm known to be a talker:) However, if what you are saying is all he can say is I Want.... then I would say that is substantial. But I don't think that is what you are saying.

Let's talk about the tensing. You have mentioned the car, the fish in the tank, and when he sees a bus. So basically, what I am picturing (and you'll have to tell me if I'm wrong here) is that when his focus is on certain situations he is prompted to go into tensing mode. It happens when he is riding in a car, and it happens when he is engaged in looking at the fish tank, and it happens when he sees a bus. YOu mention it lasts about 30 seconds, and he will stop if you ask him to, but then is mad. If you don't ask him to stop, does it last about 30 seconds? Or if you ask him to stop and its been less than 30 seconds he will stop immediately? What does he do when gets mad?>

Hello,
When he tenses he clenches his fists and tenses his body, sometimes he makes a noise and somtimes not.  It dosn't last very long-30 seconds.  He also does it when he looks at the fish in out 75 gallon fish tank.  When I tell him to stop he will but then he gets mad at me. when he wants something he will say I want milk, cookie, pizzza and so on.   For speech he receives therapy twice a week from a speech therapist.  thanks

I'm having a hard time understanding the issues you have described.

Whan you say tensing, can you describe exactly what he is doing, and under which circumstances you see this, and how long it lasts, is there any noise with this, is he aware that he is doing this, etc?

I don't think I know what He will request I want..... means exactly.

Also, what treatment are you doing for his speech disability?
