to change the heredital behaviour of stealing

Hi,

My 5 year old daughter is very shrude and attentive , but daily stealing the snacks from next person in class, if they refused to give the snacks. My husbands mother has the habit of taking others things without permission. I think the same habit comes in her. I have warned her by threatening, by advice and beaten also. but daily saying that i take snacks from my next one. Iam very frustrated and really dont know how to solve my childs behaviour.

pls tell me how to rectify this.

To change behavior at that age, the action must be immediate and constant.  If you are not there when the stealing happens, virtually nothing you can do later on at home will help.  The school must be the one that deals with it.   And, by the way, you do not inherit "stealling" - it is learned behavior.  And it can be unlearned if the action is immediate and constant.

There is a saying, "Children steal to fill a broken heart."  What is going on in your daughter's life that she feels compelled to take things from others?  I assume she is not hungry and you do give her snacks she likes?
