tourettes & ocd

Hi, im a 27 year old single mother with one 7 yr old son. my son and i both have tourettes and ocd. neither of us have had verbal tics, only motor tics. a couple months ago my son started with the verbal. why is it just starting to be verbal and is there anything that could be bringing this on???

At least one vocal tic (along with multiple motor tics) is a prerequsite for having TD - without a vocal tic, the diagnosis of TD is not accurate.  So, it looks like your son truly has TD; your own diagnosis (in the absence of any verbal tic) is questionable. There is no 'reason' for the appearance of the vocal tic - it is a component of the condition.
