I think that you should rock and comfort her and then put her to bed and leave.  just make that the new routine.  not too easy to get a 2 yr old to explain what made the change come about

I have a two year old daughter and she just started doing the same thing to me recently.. =/

She used to go to bed without problem, but for about a week/week and a half now, she FREAKS out the second I lay her down.. She will cry and hold her arms up and want me to hold her and I don't want to give in so I just tell her "Nigh-Night!!" or "Go to Sleep!!" We try not to get her out of bed, but I hate hearing her scream like that.. I'm not sure what to do and I feel like we're being mean by telling her to NO and GO TO BED!! I feel like I'm doing the wrong things sometimes..

But...

She won't want to go to bed until around 10:30 or 11:30 at night.. She will sleep on the couch, but will freak out if I take her upstairs for bed... I don't really know how to get her to stop crying.. I wish she would just go back to how she used to be and I could just lay her down and she'd go to sleep without crying first.. =/

Maybe you might have some advice for me.. And I know where you're coming from..
Have you had any luck with your grandchild?!

I also have this same problem!  My 2 year old daughter would go to bed on her own and now SUDDENLY she screams her head off when I even mention night-night! My husband just tells me its a phase and she will grow out of it but I really hate hearing her scream!

Has she just moved to live with you ? Could she be missing her Mom and Dad ? something is upsetting her,if this started recently what happened prior to her starting the crying at bed time , make sure she doesnt sleep during the  day for too long,  as she may not be tired at night ,is she is daycare as they do put them for naps ,during the day and whilst at 2 many children still have a daytime nap some need less hours than others .Also play games with her, take her to parks plenty of activity and Fun ...Good luck
