26 month old weighing 22.6 lbs

have a 26 month old son who was born 2 months premature. he weighed 3lbs14oz at birth and did fine in weight gain until around his 1st birthday. since then he has only gained 2lbs. he currently weighs 22.6lbs and is noticeably smaller then other kids his age.he looks like he is only a year old! i give him carnation instant breakfast once a day as directed by his pediatrician and have been for a year. he is a picky eater but he does okay when it is time to eat.im wondering what else i can do besides making sure he has a high calorie high fat diet. i know that being too underweigh can cause health issues and i would like to do whatever i can to help him gain weight so that is not an issue. please let me know what i can do

Suggest giving him the Carnation Instant Breakfast in his milk every time he drinks milk for additional calories and protein. Some tips for additional calories: If he likes pasta, then add meat or cream sauces to the pasta instead of plain tomato sauce or plain pasta. Add dry milk to oatmeal, mashed potatoes, gravies, creamed vegetables, and creamed soups (add additional meats to soups). Try to use all fat dairy products and not low fat foods to give him for the extra calories he needs. If he eats soups (no light broths) or stews add powdered milk to them for additional protein and calories. Hoped that helped you.
