I have a 5mth old son with acid reflux. From the day that he was born i have been going through so much with him..he is constantly spitting up. his dr. has changed his formula 4times, he went from similac, to similac advance, to nutramigen now he is on similac alimentum. He is also on prevacid and reglan for his reflux. we have seen a specialist and he has told us that unfortunately my son will have to grow out of his reflux and it could take up to 2yrs old. he also told me that it was not the milk..His dr. also had me feeding him 4ounces every 2hrs but he seemed as if he wanted more milk..now i am giving him 6ounces and waiting at least 5 to 6hrs..My son also is a very cranky baby when it comes to him sleeping at night oh my god its the worse..he never sleeps at all..hell go to sleep and is constantly crying through the night and wining..i am restless and i dont know what to do anymore i feel so bad i dont believe in what anyone is telling me because i dont see my son getting better at all..i know he is tired because he is constantlly taking short naps for like 20mints and crying..i would like to know if there is anything i can do for my son to help him..i feel as if i tried it all..please helpppppp...

You have gone through a lot and so has your son. It is important with acid reflex that the position of feeding is above 45 degrees or more, almost sitting up. Never lay him on his back when he is feeding because the acid from the stomach goes into the esophagus and causes pain. It sounds like he has issues when he is sleeping too. Raise the head of his crib to a 45-degree angle too so he is not flat on his back. Feeding him 5-6 times a day does help. Feeding that way keeps the stomach acid constant which helps the reflex. If your son can tolerant 6oz every 4-5 hours, then stay with that so he grows and his weight increases at a steady pace. Hope this helps and best of luck.

I found with my son, because of his reflux the acid would burn on his back and constant burping woke him up.  I put him on his stomach to sleep because the burps can get out and I've heard putting a pillow under the crib mattress to raise it on an angle so their more upright can help.  If your uncomfortable sleeping him on his stomach there are monitoring devices to prevent sids, hope this helps.
