Bald spots

Bald spots

I have a 17 year old son who occasionally likes his hair "buzzed" so that it is very short (1/16" in length).  This morning I got out the clippers and cut his hair.  When his hair was gone it uncovered several small bald spots on his head.  There were probably a couple dozen and they ranged from about 3/8" to 1/2" in diameter but were not necessarily all round.  This has never appeared before.  Any ideas on what this could be?  He does not eat the best balance diet and because he is plying hockey he often takes two showers a day.  It is winter in Michigan so the air is very dry.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I need to know your son's height  and weight (in kg or lbs) so I can assess his nutritional state. Thank you.
