Bottlefed baby struggling with eating

Bottlefed baby struggling with eating

My baby is seven weeks old and is not eating the amount of formula she should be. The doctor said she should be eating between 24 to 30 oz at this point. The most she eats is 22oz and most of the time that's a struggle. Overall she is a contented baby and sleeps well. At her 4 week visit, she gained, but from then on her weight gain has been slow. The doctor said she should  be consistently taking 4 oz or more and she doesn't. She was given Pecid to take in the morning at night, to help her stomach digest the formula. A week later, it was recommended to switch her formual to Nestle Good Start (from Similac Advance). Since then, she is not eating as well and is continuing to struggle with the nipple of the bottles. I have tried the next level for the nipples and tried another kind of bottle. It seems as if she wants to eat, but can not get a handle on sucking the bottle correctly. What can we do to get her to eat more or want to eat more? Is this an indication of anything or are some babies just not as hungry as others? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much!

It seems she is having issues with nipples and the formula from what you have written. Suggest finding a nipple she is comfort with and able to suck easily so she has good formula intake. If she still is not feeding well then consider returning back to her original formula - Similac Advance which she seemed to have a good intake (from your history). Hope this helped you.

I hada premature baby in the nicu just recentley my baby is 8 weeks old we had to learn a lot of tricks to get her formula down.  Supporting her chin while she *****, encouraging the movement  as soon as she stops to take a break, making sure the nipple touches the roof of her mouth and tapping the bottle . Also as soon as you start to feed make sure she is not all snuggeld up to you , put her on your lap supporting  her neck with your hand not your arm.  she will be a little uncomfortable and awake to eat. hopefully that will help.
