Increased Spit up!

Increased Spit up!

Hi! I have a four month old and we just recently started rice cereal...since then his bm diapers have slowed down, but still pretty regular. But, more concerning is his increased spit up. I am not sure if it because of the cereal or not? He is breastfed and my diet has not changed since he was born. Is the spitting up a possible allergy? Should we stop cereal or try a different one? Any opinion would be fantastic!!

Rice cereal may constipate your child and that is probably why his bowel movements have slowed down. It is recommended not to introduce any other grain cereal to children until after one year old due to possible allergies. With breast feed children, food (rice cereal and baby food) is usually not feed until after 6 months old. I suggest you stop the cereal and see if the spitting up stops. If it does, then he is not ready for rice cereal and reintroduce at 6 months old. If he continues to spit up, then it is not the rice cereal and have him checked by his MD.
