Infant Digestive Problems

My 12 week old grandson has been diagnosed with acid reflux and an allergy to proteins. He is currently taking Prevacid, Mylacon, Miralax, and Reglan oral. He is on Similac Alimentum formula, the ready made,, with an addiional 1/4 of powder and some oatmeal cereal in the bottles. The poor baby is almost always in pain of some sort. Then, on New Years Day he had what his GI Dr. referred to as an "ALTI", he stopped breathing, turned blue, was choking on nothing, (it was two hours after he ate), and then all of a sudden formula started to come out of his nose. Please, can someone come up with either a Dr. or a treatment for what is wrong with this baby. I have never seen a baby in so much pain. Thank you.

I feel for you, and I know that this doctor's answer does little emore than tick you off. My grandson also suffers from the symptoms you describe, we have noticed a direct connection to his reflux and constipation. we have also seen a direct connection of the constipation with the iron in the formula. Our doctor has given meds and advise similar to what this post answer is. I have asked the doctor for a diet for the baby that is free of , or less iron content, and been told oh no cant do that. I dont understand, babies for generations were given formulas that did not have this iron content and they are fine, but this day we are told that the iron in these levels are a must. I wonder what the long term effect of the meds, and the inability of a child to move the bowels might be. I would love for a doctor to actually care enough to help with real answers and explanations, when told by parents what is seen each day each feeding.
Anyone care to help with answers as to what changes can be made to feeding, and getting away from all the meds and iron?

Children with acid reflux are in pain and it is sad. Just a few suggestions with acid reflux. The position of feeding is important and should be almost like a sitting up position. Never lay the baby on their back right after eating or ½ hour after eating because the acid from the stomach goes into the esophagus and causes pain. Raise the head of their crib to a 45-degree angle too so they is not flat on their back. Feeding them 5-6 times day help. Feeding that way keeps the stomach acid constant, which helps the reflux, they grow, and weight increases at a steady pace. Some children do outgrow the reflux. Hope this helps.
