Overweight daughter

Overweight daughter

I have a 7 yo daughter who is 51" tall and 93 pounds.  She was 36 weeks in gestation at birth and was 8 lbs. 1 oz and 20" then.  I realize she is tall for her age but she also wears a size 14 clothes.  I am worried about her overall health and don't want her to be teased at school.  She came home last week and told me one of the amish girls in her class told her she was "fat" and needed to go on a diet.  She has always been big boned os to speak but I don't want this to get out of control.  Do you have any suggestions as far as diet for her?  She is a pretty healthy eater.  She enjoys many fruits and veggies.

You are correct that she is tall for her age. Her weight is ok for her height. Children should not go on a diet due to growing, but instead eat healthy and increase physical activities (outside playing, sports, walking, biking, etc.). It sounds like your daughter does eat fruits and vegetables, which is great.
As I stated in another question you need to decrease time watching TV or video games also. Research has found that the increased time in front of a TV or video games has a direct effect of a child's increased weight. Thank you for your question.
