Just curious why my 5 year old daughter would keep gaining 10 lbs each year?  She always gains the same time each year in the spring when she starts getting more active after the winter months.  We eat healthy, she jumps on the trampoline ALL the time, plays soccer, swims and I just don't understand on why this keeps happening. She also seems hungery all the time but I limit what she eats because it seems she wants to eat all the time.  It is hard for me to tell if she is really hungry or not.  Please help with any recommendations.

Her weight is above the 95th percentile and her height is between the 75-50th percentile for her age. Some children have growth spurts and she may have hers in the spring. Based on her weight / age, she should be consuming approximately 1800 calories per day as recommended the following; Fruits (limit fruit juices) = 1.5 cups; Vegetables 2.5 cups; Grains (cereals, breads) = 6oz equivalents; Meat & beans = 5oz equivalents; Dairy products (milk, yogurt) = 3 cups; Oils = 5 tsp; Additional calories to be used discretionary = 195. This food needs to be divided up between 3 meals and snacks between meals daily. It is not recommended to limit calorie restriction due to need for growth. You seem to know about increasing children's physical activities (play, dance, sports) to lose weight; however, it needs to be on a constant basis. Limit time in front of the TV or non-active-video games. There have been studies showing the longer the length of time a child sit in front of the TV, the greater the weight gain. Suggest cooking only low fat meats (chicken, fish, loin of pork) or non-meat sources (soy products, nuts), low fat vegetarian combinations (rice & beans, pasta & beans, low fat cheese & pasta), fat free or low fat dairy products (skim milk, 1% milk, low fat cheese, low fat yogurts, low fat soy milk/yogurt), use plant oils, non trans-fat margarines; and limit high sugar drinks/snacks and replace with low-fat milk/yogurt or fresh fruit/air-popped popcorn/low-fat cheese. High sugar drink and snacks do not give the child nutrients they need. Hoped that helped you.
