formula

Hi, my son was born at 24 wks. He had probably most the preemie issues.1 is short bowel syndrome. At the time we were told they had to remove quite a bit. He gains So slow. Austin has a gtube now and couple of yrs ago was checked for reflux, delayed emptying and they came back fine. At the same time we were told he didnt have as much removed . But Austin has always had constipation. not diaheara.Until now. He was on neocate+1 for 9yrs and was just switched to neocate jr. neocate is not making the neocate + anymore. Which we wanted him on something different so maybe we can get him to gain and not have constiptaion. Well now he doesnt , at all. Did I ween to fast? I havent done this in years! His little tummy is making all kinds of noise and he is so gassy.
Also, do you help with blenderized diet? Austin was doing this for months when on neocate+. He was finally gaining weight. Then he was put on antibotics and that was it. He couldnt tolerate the blenderized diet.(which was stage 1 baby food ran thru a blender) I would like to put him back on bd but would like someone to help with it. Our insurance will not pay for a dietition.
Sorry this is so long but just so much going on. He is a small little guy but blows people away with what he can do.I hate when he is feeling so bad. He loves school and I am hoping he can go back this week.(He runs his high school) LOL
Thank you for any info

Suggest, since he is a teenager, that you eventually go to an adult tube feed formula that he can tolerate so he gets the nutrients he needs. Nestle Peptamen 1.5 Formula is a high calorie, elemental formula that he may tolerate and give him the calories/nutrients he needs to grow. Suggest you wean him into it. Start with ¾ neocate + or junior and ¼ Peptamen 1.5, go to half and half, then ¼ neocate + or junior and ¾ Peptamen 1.5, and finally to all Peptamen 1.5. You can do each mix every 3-4 days as long as he is tolerating the mixture. Is he able to eat regular food (the ability to chew and swallow)? Recommend having him eat regular food if he can. If not, blend regular food for him instead of baby food. He will get more nutrients and may have regular bowel movements. Benefiber is a nature fiber to help the bowels that you can mix in all his food/drink. I surprised insurance will not pay for his feeding issues; especially he has a g-tube. He needs to see a Registered Dietitian to determine the formula he will tolerate and the amount he needs for growth. Good sources of information for Registered Dietitians in your area is the American Dietetic Association website, www.eatright.org   Hoped this helped you.
