iron deficiency

Good morning;
Thank you for answering my question earlier. I have applied those things and am already seeing results. My third boy is eleven months old and we got a blood CBC done. We found out that his hemoglobin is 7.5 gm/dl. (normal range 9.5-13.5) . our pediatrician has suggested supplements. Can you please suggest a diet plan for him to improve his condition. He is breastfed most of the time as he doesn’t accept too many foods. Can my diet/ iron intake help him? My tea intake is also high (5-6 cups a day). Should I limit it as it reduces absorption of iron.

His weight is just below the 5th percentile and his height is on the 10th percentile for his age. You can increase Iron food sources in your diet and his. There are 2 types of iron in our food sources, Heme iron and Non-Heme iron. Heme iron is from animal sources and Non-Heme is plant sources. Non-Heme iron has more iron then Heme iron , however, it does not absorbed well into our bodies so it is important to eat foods with Vitamin C and Heme iron foods to enhance absorption. For example, chicken with beans and a fresh orange; drink orange juice with the iron supplement; or have mashed potatoes with meat at a meal. High Iron food sources are all meats, fish, dark green vegetables, beans, enriched rice (cooked), enriched pastas (cooked), and whole wheat breads. Plus suggest giving him infant vitamin supplement with iron, ask your MD.
