won't eat after surgery

My son had surgery on June 10 and in the hospital was a VERY picky eater. I thought when he got home things would get better and they have gotten worse. He is already a selective eater and we have been reduced to hot dogs (no roll), ravioli and yogurt. Any suggestions?

Thank you for his age. If he is eating yogurt, try making yogurt smoothies (2 containers of yogurt & frozen fruit). If he would not take the fruit then make milkshakes with the yogurt and ice cream. Give it to him twice a day for extra calories and protein until his appetite returns. Children love to cook. Have him help you with preparing foods and setting the table. Have him help you make the milkshakes or yogurt smoothies. Hopefully this will increase his interest in food. The most important thing is to relax. If his appetite does not return, suggest having him seen by his doctor.

My son is 9 yrs. old and is approximately 45 pds. at this point. The doctor said that an appetite problem could occur due to surgery but I wasn't expecting for it to be this hard!
