Autisum

I have twin son, which was concieved through IVF.  They are 2 years old.  They will be 3 on 10/15/07.  One of my sons, has been diagnosed with pdd. I don't agree. I agree that he is delayed in some areas.  From what I understand it is a brain injury.  How can one twin have a brain injury and the other one does not? Can the twin that have a brain injury recover from this, and how long?  Also can this happened because of the IVF?

I have a Friend who has Triplets and she had IVF as well and only one of them has Autism...and they first said he had pdd...but then they took him to a specialist and they said he had autism...

pdd is an autism spectrum disorder called pervasive developmental disorder.  It is the most mild form of asd...sometimes the terms autism and pdd are used interchangeably and really should not be.  pdd is not caused by brain injury.  It was not caused by ivf so do not feel guilty.  It is not uncommon for one twin have it and the other not.  If you have not seen a developmental pediatrician i would suggest you go there for a definative diagnosis.  If you did and still think they are wrong...by all means get a second opinion.  Please understand that pdd is not the same as autism though.  There is a huge difference in severity and I would hate to see a child not recieve services because a parent thought he should be acting like rain man in order to have the disorder.  Rain Man was based on real life person with autism but it was a low functioning form of autism.  Not all asds look like that.
