Developmental delay due to seizure-Tuberous Sclerosis

by ShrilathaAcharya, Nov 10, 2009 04:14AM
Hi,
My niece had seizure since her  6 months old age. It was diagnosed as "Tuberous Sclerosis". She is on medical treatment even now.
(She had seizures during her 6-9 months old age and had stopped for 3 yrs, and had repeated in her 3.3 yrs and again recently at her 7 yrs old age for 5-10 mins).

She has developmental delay since then. i,e; she started crawling at her 1.5yr old, n could stand on her on with support at 2 yrs, and started walking without support at 3 yrs.
She could produce voice at 6 months. but was able  to identify mummy , daddy, granny at her 1 yr. and was able to call mummy  by 1.5 yrs. and was able to speak single word by 2 yrs.

Now she is able to speak sentence with 2/3 words for her basic needs. she understands basic instructions. able to identify/sing rhythms (words are not clear). Able to tell number 1-50(not clear), and identify 1-10. Able to tell/identify alphabets(not thorough). She doesn't mingle with her aged mates much. she likes to enjoy on her own. She has a echolalia problem too.
She is going to school regularly along with special one to one session 2-3 times a week.

1. How can we help her in her growth?
2. Is there any better option which we need to work on for her?
3. Any other suggestions???

Thanking u
Awaiting for the response-

With regards,

I understand my son has seizures and still is to this day.The schools he has been to did nothing for him  and we have moved a lot to try and get the best medical help we can for him.

The best thing we have done was that we have a teacher that comes in and works with him one on one in our home for two hours a day .so the teacher comes after school to work with him .And we get it for free. Check with the state you live in and see if they have it and what you will need to get it.

don't let the Teachers get away with not wanting to do there jobs. and make sure they are going what the other children are doing and not just fun things.

Thanks for the suggestion Mr. Dollyn.
I don't get the trained teacher to come home n help her out/teach her appropriately. But she is going to school/special training.

Are you from New York? Can you suggest me a pediatric neurologist/neuro physician/neuro surgen  as well a child psychiatrist there, with whom i can discuss my child's case?(by mail/telephone, if required- personally)?

Thank u
with regards,
Shrilatha
