Help for 9year old girl with cognitive delay

My daughter was just diagnoised with a cognitive delay and has always struggled with reading and math areas, a speech delay when she was 3 has been addressed. What can I do to asist her with her school work and what type of activities and approaches can help her understand her school work.

What type of cognitive delay was she diagnosed with? They don't usually dx a general cognitive delay. If you can tell us me more specifically about her condition we can help you better.

Hi.  My son has motor planning issues.  People often don't realize what all is involved in motor planning and just think of dyspraxia  or apraxia but it is so much more.  The brain has to organize itself and needs motor planning to learn anything or accomplish any task including doing homework.  We have found ways to help my son with motor planning which includes me being in tune with what he is doing in school--------  if he has a problem, I show him how to do it ----  meaning a math problem or something like that.  We work on reading by leveled reading and practice it.  We have a homework station and things that calm the nervous system there.  Etc.

But I do not know what type of cognitive issue your child is having.  Motor planning is certainly one but does she have dyslexia?  Low IQ?  Etc.  

More info would be helpful.  I have found that by being very involved in school, I get a good handle on where my son needs help.  Volunteer as much as possible and set up a system with her teacher to communicate often.
