diagnosis

MY child has been diagnose with development delays, since he was 9months old, now he is 4yrs and 10 month.. he was diagnose at age 3 with non specified mental retardation.. and now he got another diagnoses that says he is intellactually delay.. other word for mild mental retardation... I been suggesting he has autism.. he has a lot of sensory issues and has a hard time transition.. my question would be if 2 occupational therapists has id. him with sensory processing disorder.. does he fall in the spectrum or does he also have mild autism... and they arent able to see it... he also has a behavioral issue at home... when he gets mad cant control his anger and he breaks  thing. (tv screen, computer screen, and broke a mirror with fits..) the interventions dont seem to be a lot of help and they wont provide him with adaptive skills because he isnt diagnose with autism... any suggestions on this..would greatly help and be appreciated

I am sorry you are not getting any help, has anyone looked into food allergies as this can magnify his disabilities. I met one parent who keeps her son with autism off gluten because when he eats it "he like a person on meth." Those were her words not mine. If you want to look into more how food can affect his behavior I recommend this site:

(I know it says ADD but truly it is just about food affecting behavior.)

I hope this helps,

What you probably should do is get him in to see a developmental pediatrician.  They have all the right tools.

My 2yr old son had similar issues he has been evalutaed by Dr. Oswald a physictrist that tests for autism and othet things all in omeday at VCV in Richmond Va 804-828-9000. Ask for his number. He is great. My child did spinning which they use a board ur child sits on and they spin him in every direction for a few mins then see how he does and gradully increases him. This helps with sensory, motor, behavior, flat affect of face etc..They also did active listening which they use certaij headphones and songs to help the childs muscle tone, behaviors, etc.. These r not typical treatments but they work well. My son would head bang so bad and hurt people and couldnt walk on carpet, grass, anything really or eat certain foods or talk much or make eye comtact and in 2 weeks the head banging stopped, and he started talking more and in 1 yr he was so much better. He continues to get help in speech to pronouce things but thats it and he is 4 and womt stop talking and can handle transisiton, loud noises etc.. Call that number cuz he does give good tests and tools to get help. Also in the meantime learn sign lang that will help decrease the communication barrier and help with motor skills. Check ur local school programs they sometimes offer classes for u to learn it and use it. I took it in high school. I hope this helps.
