Yes, something is wrong.  It could be his hearing or any number of things.  Get him to a doctor now.  The longer you wait the harder it will be for him.  He needs to communicate and not being able to will only be harder for him as he gets older.  Good luck.

when my son was 2 he said about 30 words.he is a sensory seeker.im not sure where you live, but here in california we have the REGIONAL CENTER.i immediately took him to get evalutated (we have insurance but kaiser doesnt cover speech unless the child has a deformity).he has been received speech and occupational therapy for over a year now and he is doing great.now his issue is language.the process of forming sentences.he talks a lot n says sentences.but it seems like his brain is working faster then his mouth.. n need more time in speech.has ur child been tested for speech?if for any reason her therapy is denied or if you can not get it covered, there are many things you can do on your own. go to starfall.com . this website was used at my sons first school.ALSO, GET HER IN A PRESCHOOL (NOT DAY CARE) SO SHE HAS MORE SOCIAL INTERACTION. KIDS LEARN SO MUCH FROM OTHER KIDS!

yes and the hearing test are very important!especially if your childs had a history of ear infections.at first i thought my son could not hear, but he can.he has had many ear infections and we are currently looking at the option of tubes as we feel and have heard SOME KIDS WITH SPEECH PROBLEMS DO BETTER ONCE THEY HAVE TUBES. its like their ear canals open up more and they can hear better

Hi, I work with children who have ASD (autistic soectrum disorders) Many of whom have little or no verbal language and find verbal instructions and generally the workd around them very confusing. With them we use Makaton signing. I is a very simple kind of signing and aways relates to what you are doing i.e the sign for sitting if one hand on to of the other and lowering them together. Now I am not suggesting that your child is autistic but as verbal instructions alone are not being followed possibly verbal and visual might help?

My grandson will be one the eleventh of February.  He cannot sit on his own and doesn't have normal speech patterns for his age as he only makes vowel sounds and not consonants. He is also below the curve for weight and size.  He does do the army crawl, but always uses his right leg to push himself forward. He has always been clingy with his mother and is just now allowing others to hold him.  He does allow his father to hold him freely.  He is only now beginning to tolerate lumpy foods before gagging.  He recently began to eat puffy cereal, but cannot eat cheerios. My daughter had pre-eclampsia and spent a week in bed before they induced labor.  He was however only one weak early.  He did not handle the birth process well and at one point his heart beat went down to 48.  They were ready to do an emergency c-section but his heartbeat went back up so they held off.  Then they couldn't get his head to come out normally and his heart beat went down again and they had to use suction on his head in order to have a successful birth. He appears to be of normal intelligence. His doctor referred him to early intervention.  He was evaluated and was qualified for their services.  He will start the program as soon as school starts again.  I am concerned that he may have cerebral palsy.  Could some one tell me more about his symptoms and the possible cause of them?  Thanks.
