ASTHMA MEDICATIONS AND AGGRESSION???

by opus88, Nov 08, 2009 02:52AM
this is the only 'children' related forum I can find for allergys (allergies)/asthma my question is on the steroid inhalers.
I have a 10 yr old grandson just dx'd this summer with asthma and put on a diskus plus a rescue inhaler...don't know the exact name of the med.
My question to a doctor is....ever since being on them he is getting into trouble at school...being very aggressive, getting into pushing/shoving fights....has NO friends and is miserable.
Can all this be related to the medication?
He has always been high strung and overactive but NEVER aggressive.
this seemed to coincide with the use of these medications and I am very concerned for him.
thanks

Hi i have heard of some steroid inhalers causing changes in behaviour but it also may be that your grandson is worried about the new diagnosis and his inhalers which may be contributing to his aggression.
My boy is ina similiar position and has become very clingy and questions pop out at the most unexpected moments .

thanks for the comments, No this aggression is different! he has NO patience at all with other kids....you know, my way or no way..
and he gets upset and crys so easily now, havent't seen him since the end of August when he went back home with his mom, but he is coming in mid Dec. for a couple weeks, so I'll be more able to see again for myself how he is..
How old is your son?
I just think its sometimes more harm than benefit to be putting these young children on steroids...but I know there are times when its very necessary.
