Help! My child won't stop vomiting at school.

My child has been vomiting almost daily at school.  We get her home and she's fine, eating and drinking with little to no gagging.  We know she has a major latex allergy and is allergic to soy, pork and vanilla.  She reacts to most latex based foods and the school has been doing well about keeping those out of the classroom.  I commented to another teacher in the school that I was worried that maybe it was the "recycled tire" playground.  My husband dropped off the kids this morning and the teacher promptly informed him that she never plays on that playground.  I wasn't meaning to offend, but I'm at my wits end trying to find out what is making my child vomit at school so much.  I don't know that it is the playground, but at this point I'm just thinking out loud trying to find an answer.  My daughter has had a lot of medical issues in her short 5 years and vomiting has always been a problem.  We eliminated the vanilla flavored formula and all has been better at home.  I just don't know what to do about school, and how to explain my point without offending them and in return it being taken out of my kiddo.  Any help, suggestions, anything..... I would appreciate it.

Maybe you need to get a doctors note of all of her allergies and explain to them all of the possibilities of it being passed to her, and how it affects her. If that can be ruled out then i would start to wonder if she might be having panic attacks being caused from stress at school... either a bully or just stress from the learning environment? I would check into it. You can always have her see a psychologist/therapist for these issues. My daughter sees one. We were told by her teachers that she probably had ADHD and I didn't want to put her on any medications for it, so I took her to a behavioral therapist and after having her tested they ruled out ADHD and found out that she has Generalized Anxiety and after looking into it further I began realizing that the teacher was pushing her WAY too hard.... These public schools can get very stressful for our dear sensitive children. I would look into it.... very closely. Good Luck!

Does your child have a special form associated with her allergies? I forget what it's called but WA teachers have forms for special education needs. And I'm not just talking about extreme needs like children in SE who can't feed themselves or who have severe disabilities. They have specific forms for more mild problems and the school is bound by law to adhere to the guidelines set down in the form.

Recently a child came to a school I was volunteering at and she had an anaphylactic reaction to latex even in tiny amounts. She had one of these forms which made it clear how we were supposed to help her. We had to remove rubber from around the school because rubber can/does contain latex. Teachers also had to send home a note to the students reminding them not to bring balloons (which most schools have adopted as a permanent policy anyways). Apparently even all of her classrooms had to be eraser free or use a specific kind of eraser because there is a small amount of latex in erasers. Perhaps a similar form could help your child. Also it may not be her class, but classes near her that could be causing problems.

In the mean time look for abnormal things latex could be in that may only be in a school environment and see how she reacts in an otherwise safe environment. And maybe, if you're not doing it already, make sure she eats nothing you don't specifically make. Good luck!
