I am helpless

by Eva66, Feb 22, 2008 09:03PM
I don't know where to post this, but here goes this is my last resort. My son is fixing to be 8 months old. He has had what the doctors are calling a cold since he was 2 months old. I can not believe that this is a cold. He was diagnosed with RSV on Jan 5th, the ER doctor said he saw some spots that looked like pediatric bronchitis in his chest exray. Otherwise all chest xrays have been clear he seldomly will have wheezing in chest. He almost always has a wheez coming from what seems to be his throat, nasal discharge and an absolutely horrible cough. His doctor wont give him any thing for any of this saying it will not help for a cold and tells me it is immposible for him to have any allergies yet.  It is absolutely heartbreaking to hear him this way and out of 6 months I'd say maybe 3 weeks all together he has sounded healthy.Other than the discomfort when he cough he is a perfectly happy baby and has not ran a fever with this either. I don't what to do.. Please help!

I would see another doctor. That sounds like a crazy time frame for just a cold. Does he have milk allergies?? My daughter had a milk allergy pretty much since birth. We were on 5 different formulas until they put her on a hypoallergenic formula. Maybe he is plemy from a milk based formula?? I don't know, I would really take this to another doctor and start fresh with a new one's input!!! I hope you find some relief, a mom getting no answers for their child is a horrible feeling. Try someone else(:

just as you feel that you are helpless to your son the person called Vickie418 is right to see another doctor and may have a point on a milk allergy and you should try to see if he throws up after each meal every day and you may want to keep a time chart if he does and when he does. Also try this wonderful siite that helped my duaghter:

HI JUST HAPPENED TO FLICKING THROUGH AND NOTICED YOUR QUESTION MY GRANDSON HAS AN EGG ALLERGY AND ALTHOUGH HE DOESNT HAVE YOUR SYMPTONS (JUST VERY SICK AND TREMBLING) HE WAS 6 MONTHS WHEN HE GOT IT SO YOU CAN HAVE ALLERGIES AT HIS AGE SO I WOULD AGREE THINK YOU NEED A SECOND OPINION

by lhughes, May 02, 2008 06:53PM
Get a second opinion...technically they "don't" test for allergies at that early in life, but they can and perhaps that is the problem.

Please, find someone who will help you and your child.  They took all the good pediatric stuff off the shelf... we had given our dd#2 Robitussin to help with a recurrant cough around 9 months and she did fine, unfortunately, they don't do that anymore for "fear" that people weren't paying attention and overdosing their children.  Now those children that were actually helped by those meds must suffer through it.

Sorry!

My son had a little bit different symptoms but did have a dairy allergy, i believe since the day he was born. My doc kept telling me, you do not need an allergist, etc, etc, etc. I kept listening. Finally, I decided to go to an allergist when he was one. Guess what? Dairy allergy. So after all his suffering with lots of excema, ear infections, and fevers, we discontinued the formula and changed to a non-allergenic one. Everything disappeared.

Listen to your own heart if you think there is a problem. Go get a second opinion.

Dairy and a multitude of other foods can do exactly this!  It happened with 3 of my 4 children as infants and some thru toddler.  It is called a DELAYED HYPERSENSITIVITY and causes swelling of the mucosal membranes which can lead to asthma, sinus, ear infection and asthma as well as reflux can be involved, too,.

How are things going now?

My daughter as an infant was so bad . the green goop came out of her eyes and they said constant pink eye from daycare and it turned out to be severe food allergy/intolerance thru skin (not blood) which was causing inflammation and the green mucous had noplace to go except exit thru the eyes and cause asthma and also ears!!!!!  That was 15yrs ago .. today they know much more!!!!!

Thru your dr an antihistamine may help along with decongestant to take down the swelling so this stuff can get out of the body the right way?

My son was tested at 8mos old and was negative; but he reacted to caseine even on Alimentum.

I'm going to PM you to alert you to this post.
