RASH ON MY 1YR OLD SON

My 1 year old son has developed fever that lasted for 3 days. Fever seems to be down now but he has now rash on his face, head and upper body. When I took him to the doctor he said that it's probably viral infection and rash is normal after high fever. Does anyone know how long this rash will last? Do I just wait for the rash to go away by itself? Can I give him Benadryl? Thank you very much for any helpfull information.
