enlarged lymph nodes

My 9 year old son has many enlarged lymph nodes-- both in the neck (cervical) area, and in the groin (inguinal). They have been like this for over 1 year. I had him to the family Dr last year about this. Since then he has had an increase in number of enlarged nodes, and some in the neck seem to be tender/sore...... My son has allergies-- to grass, and other seasonal allergies, and he has been diagnosed with cough variant asthma...
I am wondering if there is a link between enlarged lymph nodes and allergies???? and is it a normal thing...
Why does he have these enlarged nodes??/ I am going back to the dr. this week.
Last year when we went to the Dr about this he didn't seem concerned, just said that it was probably due to bug bites, and that was it!!! I am really concerned. in general he does not seem to be sick, but is a small boy....
any suggestions.....
