testing

My toddler isn't getting any better...sick all the time. Coughing, runny/stuffed nose...
When's a good age to start pressuring the doctor to do allergy testing?

My other kids were tested years ago...they all have different allergies...not one kid has the same one. Weird.
They did do blood tests on the youngest one last year, but those don't show much.
I think the other boys were around 5 or so when they were tested, but this one is just so sick.

That is a good ? .. what age to test at .. and as I understand it's a question that many docs disagree on with an answer unfortunately.  Some believe an infant can give an accurate test while others disagree because a young baby needs to be exposed to the allergen first.  I would think by age 6 it's more than appropriate to test .. just my two cents, though.

How is he doing?

My Grandson was tested at a tear and tested posative to milk, eggs & nuts.
He was re tested at 3yrs and was still allergic to these and especially to peanuts. My kids & I have allergies. I had to demand testing for my daughter at 15 months and she was severely allergic to 4 foods! If you can't get him to order testing get a second opinion or make an appt. with aan allergist.

The youngest child we tested for food allergy, was 8 months. She tested allergic to milk and soy.  After we changed her formula, there was a marked improvement.

Little guy is getting worse. He can't sleep anymore. As soon as he lays down he starts choking and coughing.
He was given nose spray, which doesn't seem to be helping.
I called the clinic today but they can't get him in for another 2 weeks.
I'm at a loss as to what to try next.
We've tried propping him up at night next to the humidifier, but it makes no difference.
Think I'll demand those allergy tests, and if he says no I'll take my child elsewhere.

I would recommended changing the following things - I mentioned them in an other post and I'd suggest your try them as well to see if your little guy gets better: you want to remove all chemicals from the house: no air fresheners, no chemical cleaners. Start buying green products. Fragrance free soaps, free and dye laundry detergents, no dryer sheets. And no perfume/cologne as well: they are terrible for someone with allergies.

I personally have asthma and live now without the things mentioned above! I am both allergic to lots of living stuff from outside and lots of chemical based products.

Other question: could it be his mattress? How about if he lays down somewhere else, does he still cough?

The mattress!!!!
He actually slept in his own bed for a change...he slept through the night! For the first time in his entire life...which is 2 1/2! lol

I think he's allergic to daddy! Or at least something daddy works with. lol

When I took him in to his pediatrician last week, it was determined that he was also going through a nasty viral infection at the same time.

The pediatrician said that he would rather not do the testing quite yet. He said that we should just take all of my allergies, daddy's allergies, and his 3 older brother's allergies, mix them together, and that's probably what he's allergic to.
Unfortunately, I only know what a few of my allergies are ( they won't test me as they say I'm too old) and my older sons all have different allergies...no two boys have the same allergy...except penicillin.
My oldest son is actually allergic to celery! How in the world can someone be allergic to that? But the testing concluded that he is...after ruling out a million other things.
Now if only we can convince him to sleep in his own bed forever. lol
All we can do for now is to let him start off in our bed and then move him. This is hubby's fault...he's been renovating our house for 3 years now...hasn't done anything in since babe was born...so we've had no choice but to share one room. lol
