Can I still get an epidural with past herniated disks?

Can I still get an epidural with past herniated disks?

I am expecting my first baby due in January.  In 1996 I had two herniated/bulged disks (I think L4 and L5) but can't remember for sure.  I was in physical therapy for over a year and constant pain, it was awful.  After about 16 months, the pain went away and has only come back a few times since then.

My question, is that since I have that history of lumbar back problems, will I still be able to get an epidural during delivery of my baby?  Thank you.

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you, Elaine. You'd have to ask the doctor who gives epidurals if there are contraindications.

That being said, have you ever heard of the Bradley Method of Natural Childbirth? It might be something to consider as an alternative. Here's a link - http://www.bradleybirth.com
