HEADACHES AND NECKACHES ON WAKING

by cabact, Oct 22, 2009 06:00PM
For a lot of years I have suffered with neck pains from a car accident and in the latter years these neck pains have triggered off headaches.  These headaches, along with my neck pain, generally occur when lying down and especially in the early morning and on waking. Normally related to my forehead area. Once up the headache usually leaves, except today, it is very unpleasant and even making me nauseous.  I also suffer with shoulder and arm pain.  Probably all related.
I have tried physio, massage, acupuncture, bowen.  NOthing seems to help for very long.  I have done various exercies. I know my posture is not good but I am trying hard to fix that up.  Tension is pretty awful at times. I need some advice and help as I am at desperation point.

It certainly sounds like a structural issue, based on your description. I would consider meeting with an Upper Cervical specialist in your area for an examination (here's a referral directory - www.UpCspine.com).

Another possibility is you have a crummy mattress, pillow, and/or sleeping posture. I don't recommend stomach-sleeping, water beds, or down-pillows.
