PAIN AFTER NUCCA

About a week ago, I had food poisoning and was very sick to my stomach to include vomiting off and on.  Unfortunately during these episodes, my neck felt like it was going to pop right out where the atlas is located right under my ears on both sides.  Why is that?  I have never experienced anything like this before and I can only attribute it to the NUCCA adjustments I have had.  In fact, the pain has been ongoing since this incident and it feels like the atlas near the transverse is poking my neck.  I have had an adjustment since and the pain subsided temporarily, but the poking sensation and neck pain on either side continue.

Additionally, ever since the above happened, every time I bend over whether to pull weeds, pick up something of the floor, pull clothes out of the dryer, yoga class,  etc… it still feels like I described above.   I am pretty upset about it because as I told you before, I am not used to not being active.

Sometimes spinal corrections are easy. Other times they're more complicated. Depending on your age, activity level, and the biomechanical issues at hand, your recovery process could be one that's less cut-and-dry.

If it were me in this situation, I'd let the doctor shoot another film to make the necessary analysis/changes to the adjustment... NUCCA is all about mathematics and physics, so it's important to have the right calculations to see the correction through to the end.

Dear Dr. Tanase,

Thank you for responding.  Yes, the practitioner did do another X-ray after the initial adjustment.  He then did further alignment after the 2nd X-ray.  My original reason for seeing the NUCCA doctor was vertigo, not neck or back pain.  I had already been to the Neuro who performed an EEG, MRI, and inner ear tests...all normal.  Now, my vertigo is all but gone (thankfully), but now I have ongoing neck and upper back pain that confuses me.  Why would my neck and back hurt now that I have had adjustments when they never hurt prior?  I have had two neck injuries (one where I feel on the pavement and busted my chin open - 8 years ago and another when my child jumped on my head off the side of pool while I my head was turned to the right - 5 years ago) neither of which I remember having long term complications.  An optomitrist I spoke to in Michigan is the one who suggested NUCCA.  We only have one "official" NUCCA chiro where I live, so he was the Doctor I went to.  He says it is possible for the angle for adjustments to change and wants to do another X-ray at his cost.  I just do not know if I want to perpetuate the situation and continue treatments or not... what do you think?

It's realy hard for me to give you an exact answer without having viewed your films... Your age, activity level, occupation, health history, and unique spinal structure can pose a number of different possibilities...

NUCCA practitioners generally take follow-up x-rays after the first adjustment to measure the change. Did your doctor take these "post" views?
