surgical clips in my spine???

in 1994 i had a lower lumbar sympathectomy for RSD in my left leg. after, the surgeon told my husband that the nerves were cut and the ends burned. would surgical clips be used in this kind of surgery? and if so would they be left in the body? i would appreciate any help answering this question. thank you.
