Antibiotic Resistant Chlamydia?

Antibiotic Resistant Chlamydia?

I was diagnosed with Chlamydia and my partner and I were treated on Janurary 3rd, 2009.  We were only given 500mg of azithromycin as opposed to the 1g that we should have been given.  We waited a week and had sex again.  The last time I've had sex was Janurary 10th.   I presented signs of chlamydia again so she went to get tested this time and she came up positive again.  On January 23rd we were both given a gram of azithromycin.  On Feuburary 13th, I went back to the doctor because my symptoms had not gone away.  They did a culture and it came back positive for chlamydia.  Everywhere I go, I read there is no antibiotic resistant chlamydia, but these antibiotics didn't work for me. Currently I am in the fourth day of treatment with Levaquin.  My symptoms are fading slightly, but I believe this could be due to the placebo effect - everytime I've taken medicine I've 'felt better'.  We skipped the Doxycycline treatment because I am allergic to tetracyclines.  My symptoms are fading, but every once in a while there is the occasional burn/itch but there has never been any discharge.  I will be cultured again by my doctor on March 4th because this is the first time she's ever seen this happen.  Any suggestions?  I'm becoming really worried about this.

I don't know what is causing your symptoms, but you all are testing too soon.  You need to wait at least a month to test again, or the test could be picking up on dead chlamydia dna.

Its possible that you are experiencing resistance, but I'd also wonder if you've had a prostate exam.  Its possible for chlamydia to get into the prostate and cause an infection.  If that's the case, the levaquin can help.

I live in Nigeria. I've been having serious pains in my testicles since 1998. This was combined with other symptoms. Doctors have treated me for Uric acid crystals, appendicitis and urinary tract infections since then. Tests for some of these appeared positive, but the treatment for UTI was given when no problem was diagnized but since symptoms persisted. All this while I had NEVER been tested for chlamydia till March 2011. It was POSITIVE, and by this time I was having blurred vision, headaches, sore throats, etc. Could it be that all these years it was the chlamydia that was the problem? My wife and I were given azythromycin 500mg daily for 5 days. We also took Doxycycline 100mg 3 times daily for 4 weeks. Yet symptoms continue. What should we do?
