gel. By the 3rd day/treatment with the gel the symptoms were almost completely gone. Then 1 day later she called and said I had tested positive for both Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. Is there any chance that the BV could have interferred with the test and triggered a false positive?
I get tested every year and have never tested + for an STD before but have had several yeast infections. Is it easy to miss Chlamydia or Gonorrhea in a swab test or Urine
I came across this because I also have had a similar problem. I had the same partner for about 2 weeks and we both stated we were 'clean'... after about a week it burned when we had sex
- a symptom i've had in the past where it ended up being a yeast infection. I treated myself for a yeast infection and it did not go away after a week and i could tell i also had a uti
blooming since i was mistreating myself. i went to urgent care and they pee tested me and also swabbed - they ran some tests there and confirmed that i had BV and a UTI
. the MD gave me some really strong antibiotics and i started to feel better - 4 days later i get a call that i have chlamydia! total shock - i ended up having to tell my partner which was VERY embarassing... his results just came back NEGATIVE!!! I'm wondering if I didn't have chlamydia because I didn't have any symptoms... I've been researching on the internet for the past hour or so the possibility of chlamydia being mistaken for BV. It seems like there is a lot of instances where people feel this way as their partners are coming back negative for chlamydia. Only problem is that none of the sources are exactly reliable, mostly boards like this. I'm definitely going to speak with my doctor next week about this possibility.
Yes, new research confirmed that bacterial vaginosis can give false positives for low-risk women who are tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia by NAAT (the urine test). It is recommended that those who are given the diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis and are then told they also have Chlamydia and Gonorrhea when they are low-risk (ie. have (-) partner and are in a monogamous relationship) should request a culture test. The tx for BV is metronidazole, an antibiotic that DOES NOT kill gc/chlamydia. If the culture is negative it's because you never had it, not bc the medication erradicated it. I know because it happened to me. Supposedly, false positives are rare so you may want to request the culture and empirical treatment.
I still stand by my answer. I would like to see Luv machine`s research data to support his or her comment. BV is typically caused by Gardnerella species, a genus different from the Chlamydia bacteria. A good discussion of posittive result confirmation can be found in the published by the Journal of Clinical Microbiology. Contributors include the well knownDr. J Schacter and med helps own Dr. E.W. Addendum...a positive NAAT should not be followed up with a less sensitive test.ie culture. due to the false negative rate. This is CDC`s recommendation
