Can Chlamydia be cured without treatment?

by loisgriffin, Sep 04, 2008 10:27AM
I recently visited a new doctor and had a pap smear (hoping to be tested for Chlamydia). I had been diagnosed w/ it last year, but never treated it. Is there a reason why my pap smear came back normal?

Did you ask for a chlamydia test?  A pap smear won't test for chlamydia, unless you have one of the new pap tests.

Why did you not treat it?

If you truly had chlamydia, it probably won't go away on its own.

I specifically asked to be checked for Chlamydia, so unless the Dr. made a mistake...? What test should I have asked for instead?

Nope, that's fine.  Just make sure you were tested for it.  You said pap smear, and not other testing, so I just wanted you to know that a pap doesn't usually test for chlamydia.

If you were truly negative this time, maybe you had a false positive last time, or you took some other antibiotic over the course of the year that cured it.
